RCIA Program

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, or RCIA, is a process prepared by the Church, through which a parish prepares and welcomes new members into the Christian community.  This is a time of preparation for a person who has never been baptized, for someone who has been baptized in another denomination and wishes to become a Catholic, and for someone who has been baptized as a Catholic but who has not received any instruction in the faith

It is a journey of faith through stages of questioning, discernment of God’s call, reflection on the Gospel and prayer, instruction and discussion, in a community building experience with other members of the Parish.

The process is in four stages – the Inquiry stage – a liturgical rite welcomes the candidate into the second stage – the Catechumenate.  In a liturgical celebration, the Rite of Election on the First Sunday of Lent, the catechumen enters a period of Enlightenment and Purification in preparation for the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil.   A fourth stage, the Mystogogia, a time of reflection on the experience of the sacraments and the life of the Church is from Easter until the celebration of Pentecost.
